In a very recent article published at the Journal of Geophysical Research, A. Torfstein and S. Keenast show the very first continuous comparisons between of daily atmospheric dust and ocean productivity in the Gulf of Aqaba’s nutrient-limited ecosystem, and concluded that they appear not to be correlated in this region.
The study is based in high‐resolution records of daily surface chlorophyll‐a (chl‐a) concentrations and hourly atmospheric dust concentrations in the Gulf of Aqaba (northern Red Sea), which were continuously collected from 2012 until 2016. According to these authors, there was no significant positive (or negative) correlation between dust and chl‐a surface concentrations, at both seasonal as well as daily time scale.
