Over the past week we were at the University of Algarve (Faro, Portugal) to be part of the Marine Biogeochemistry Training School on: "Biogeochemical and Ecological Dimensions of a Changing Ocean", nicely organised by Fátima Abrantes, a well recognised paleoceanographer and diatom expert from IPMA (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera) and CCMAR (Center of Marine Sciences).
The course was very intense and gave us the exceptional opportunity to learn directly from big names in science such as Adina Paytan, Jerry McManus and Susanne Neuer. The lectures and subsequent scientific discussions aimed at reaching a better understanding of modern ocean distributions and biogeochemical cycles of the elements that regulate marine ecosystem dynamics, and how to use such elements and their isotopes as proxies for reconstructing the climate of the past.
The atmosphere during the course was super informal and the scientific discussions exciting and fruitful! The DUSTCO team was lucky enough to gain a fellowship for participating on the course, for which we are deeply grateful :)
